For an inexpensive BPV, stay with the OEM...... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sat, 26 Aug 2006 14:51:58 In Reply to: cheap BPVs, pants, Fri, 25 Aug 2006 06:47:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Bosch unit. Not very pretty or exciting but they will last 100,000 miles or so and only cost $50. Fans of other car brands actually pursue used Bosch units off old wrecked Saabs! Crazy I know.
Next up the price sheet are the Forge and Hyperboost units for $125 to $150 each. Aluminum bodies; polished, black, or brightly colored electroplate.
I currently have a rebuildable Forge valve which uses a diaphragm rather than a piston. Diaphragms are fragile and will tear, but act faster than pistons. Pistons are more durable but need periodic greasing. A new diaphragm approximately once per year (supplied free by Forge so far) or regrease the piston once per year - maintenance seems about equal for these two types of more sophisticated BPV's.
