2. I have notes that I took down some time ago but unfortunately, I cannot recall who wrote it or where I got it. Regardless, the point was that retarding timing allowed for more boost. The gain of boost over timing can be significant if fueling and charge air-cooling are properly addressed. Increased boost with less ignition retard can be achieved with a low compression motor. But the greatest gains are achieved by using the highest octane fuel available. That way you can boost high and keep the timing advanced. Now the trick is how to apply the simple pointers to our engines. I choose high compression and water injection. I enjoy the instant low-end response and solid mid range of current setup. It is not the best way to go if you want a dyno queen but the area under the power curve is nice flat and long. It is in my opinion a very good street and canyon car. I also have a low compression motor (7.25:1) and that thing is a completely different beast. It’s a transmission destroyer. I say this not because it has lag, but because It’ll boost to 25+ . However, once the boost kicks in, hold on to your ass
