Your caution with the little details sounds very good, you (and others) may be interested in this article as a point of curiosity.
Mind you, breakin prodedures are very personal, as you can hear completely different things from different, equally reputable sources. This must all be taken with a grain of salt, and with personal experience.
If you had a machine shop do work for you, it doesn't hurt to ask what their recommended procedures are also, they are hopefully competent enough to know what they are doing, and should be able to recommend how you should go about things as well.
