"Hot Rodding" the 9-3SS 4-cylinder Engine Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Wed, 13 Dec 2006 05:53:11 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The 4-cylinder engine in the 9-3SS/SC/'Vert family (GM's LK9 engine) shares some common dimensions and parameters (i.e. bore, stroke, compression ratio) with the 2.0 litre engine used in the Chevy Cobalt SS (GM's LSJ engine). Although many have bemoaned the use of a "Corporate" engine in the Saab brand, GM's Racing folks have compiled a book detailing how to tweak this motor to 1400HP with many performance intervals along the way.
The attached link is for this manual. It includes build instructions along with part numbers (stock, GM Racing or After Market) to get to these performance levels. A handy reference for performance pistons, performance cams, performance manifolds, turbocharger upgrades and other turbo components.
Maybe not useful for someone looking for only an additional 50 ponies or so, but very useful for someone looking for additional power in the range of hundreds of horsepower. Geared towards drag racers, but power is power!
