some clarification? Posted by jak [Email] (#195) [Profile/Gallery] (more from jak) on Fri, 5 Jan 2007 05:38:37 In Reply to: Re: cheap engine hardware for tuning 9-5's ??, dudethe9-5isfast, Thu, 4 Jan 2007 13:35:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
the B345 & B234 rods are not the same
the B235 rods are longer & this places the wrist pin higher on the piston as well as the rings in the B235 & this is part of the problem & the rest of the pistion issue in the B235 is material & casting design they moves the rings upward to reduce emissions from the car as the area above the ring & below the deck of the piston trap Hcs(unburnt fuel) as the flame front cant reach into that small space so moving the rings upward reduces the area to trap unburnt fuel
forged pistons in the B235 I hear make it capable of about 500BHP
the B234 uses shorter rods & the pin is lower, so are the rings
the piston is taller & much thicker & heavyer, it is a cast piston not a forged piston just a much stronger cast piston then in the B235
I woulodent really advise pulling used pistons & rods from a B234 & sticking them into your engine as the B234 stuff is probably warn out like 4 times & the fitment probably will be loose causing pre mature failure
you can get to just over 300BHP with your stock internals which is pretty respectable power
after that you need pistons
parts & labor to do pistons & rod bearings is gona run you about $1600 -+
& closer to $2000 if you want to get the chains done at the same time, this would be with gaskets, seals & all
considering that most V8 guys who want to make like 450BHP have to buy twice as many pistons, rods & whatnot that the internals arent to bad on the B235
anyway I just wanted the thread to be clear on the changes in the engines
take care
