Seems like whatever you do will be a lot of time and money. Why don't you just spend it at a machine shop. have them custom make components for a bullet-proof tranny. Once you get one developed you can sell them to the rest of us!! :-D
The Saab is a great handling car but not much on torquey performance. Have you considered an engine and tranny transplant? Dropping a 2.4L turboed motor and performance tranny from a Neon or PT Cruiser might be an option. You could easily get in the high 300hp range with as much torque. A bullet-proof street/strip tranny with a Quaif dif for the Mopar turbo's will set you back about $1500. About the same as an off-the-shelf, prone-to-failure Saab tranny. That combo would also give you the option to drag the car as well if that was your thing.
I'm not sure what engine/tranny combo will fit in a Saab. Anyone out there tried??
