The accepted best combination here is:

1) 2.1L or up to -93 2.3L cylinder head, part number 911535 cast into the top of the flare for the cam sprockets.

2) The intake cam that came with the 2.1L or 2.3L head, they are all the same, Turbo, non-turbo, with the 1985 900 Turbo exhaust cam, which is supposed to give a little more overlap, which is better for high RPM.

3) 2.1L (or 2.3L) head gasket.

4) Intake manifold: this is a personal preference thing, and is a way to balance the '85 exhaust cam. The smaller diameter runners in the 2.0L manifold keep the air velocity up, and generally help to make more torque in the middle of the rev range, and the 2.1L manifold with larger diameter runners sacrifices a little velocity for maximum flow, which will push the torque peak up higher in the rev band. Regardless, matching the ports from the intake to the cylinder head is important. A step in either direction produced turbulence around the area where the injector is, and is bad in either case.

5) The 2.0L throttle bodies have the correct vacuum fittings already on them, and the correct throttle position sensor.

I use: 2.1L head, 2.1L intake and exhaust cams, and 2.1L intake manifold. I have an extra '85 exhaust cam to swap in, but the dyno by my house recently changed possession, and I don't know if it is still being operated, but I am planning on doing a back-to-back baseline run, run with both 2.1L cams, then a run with the '85 exhaust cam swapped in, to get real number increases, which I will publish when I get them, since I don't think that anyone has ever done a back-to-back comparison, only speculation.

I may be able to get the test done when I am home for spring break in about 6 weeks, I will let everyone know.

Best,
Drew
