I think it will fit as many people put the 94-98 9000 2.3 into the 9-5's because the 94-98 motors are much stronger. The pistons are much stronger, but I am not sure what years they are worse than others, its possible the 99 modle 9-5's were not as bad as say the 2003 model 9-5's. Most go the other way and I would recommend you do the same. Find a good b234r block and put in new rings and bearings and hone the cylinder walls and you will have an almost new engine for the same price as the 9-5 motor :-)
It will be a stronger better motor.
