Definite overfueling. I'd solve the overfueling problem before I worried about decarboning the engine. That will go a long way toward removing combustion chamber carbon deposits anyway.
Other carbon deposits IMHO that are worse are the fuel deposits on intake valves. Usually a high quality high octane fuel has adequate detergents to clean them up but if not techrolene can help or some other deposit cleaner, amsoil PI works well and then there's amsoil PowerFoam.
In the old days we just poured a quart of cold water in a thin stream in the old Holley while the engine was running at about 3K rpm. Thermal shock (not to be confused with hydraulic shock that breaks engines) of the water hitting the hot bits and going into steam in the combustion chamber blasted the combustion chamber clean. Today, maybe not such a good idea (did you ever see how clean an engine with water/alcohol injection is??) because the carbon particles so loosened/blasted out can clog a catalytic converter. Your mileage may vary.
But I'd fix the black plugs issue first. Check for induction system leaks, bad fuel pressure regulator, etc.
