Bryan, I'm also running the 8.7 psi spring on my 38mm TiAl. I have the small blue and the large red to choose from. What I understand of the APC system is, the WG is slightly open just as the turbo begins to spool. Rumor has it that saab engineers wanted to reduce the massive torque hit that was impractical for everyday driving. This is why, if you have a stock car that boosts to 12 psi, and instead plug in an MBC set to 12 psi, your low-end will feel much more powerful.
I basically just used APC as a tuning guide. I plugged in my best modded APC and drove around for a few weeks, noting whereabout my max was. Now I have an MBC set just under that max, and a knock LED to watch. This provides a much better low-end, which is good for those of us with larger turbos that take longer to spool.
If I were you, I'd drop in the larger spring and detune your APC a bit. Hope that helps.
