Removing balance shaft chain Posted by AdamB [Email] (#3) [Profile/Gallery] (more from AdamB) on Sat, 16 Jun 2007 17:10:51 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm probably going to have the balance shaft chain removed in the near future on my 9000CS 2.0T (B204E). I won't mind the extra vibrations and am doing it mostly to avoid costly engine destruction in the immediate future, as the chain and cogs are pretty worn and old. A couple of extra HP and faster reving is just a bonus.
I've read through lots of old posts regarding this, both here at Saabnet and at a swedish Saab forum. It seems some people say it's ok just to snip the chain and remove it with the sump off, whereas others talk about having to remove the tensioner too? Why would this be necessary?
I know the chain is hard to get at from below, but it is possible. So, can't I just leave the rest as it is? Seems lots of others have done so without problems?
