I don't think its really that long, its supposed to be for 3 full seconds to get the run and its from 2000 to 3500rpm for a manual, that is the rpm range it will adapt if you are wot. Only takes 3 seconds, don't really need to go all the way to redline from what I understand. Do one, let it cool off for a minute or two and do another pull and then another.
It can take a lot longer to adapt without a re-set and it needs to be within the right rpm range for the full 3 seconds.
