Hmm lessee...
If you can find a N/A saab 900 in a salvage yard somewhere, get the 3.0 bar regulator and the intake cam. Get the larger intercooler pipes from a later model saab 900. Search this board for "tweak APC" and you'll find pleny of advice on how to increase your horsepower by modifying the controller. Boost is controlled by a solenoid which is just to the passenger's side of the coil, atop the radiator. There is a restrictor in the center hose barb that the turbo compressor line connects to. Remove that restrictor and put a smaller one in. That will make the boost come in quicker. (search this board for "APC solenoid mod" for restrictor suggestions). Advance your timing about 10 degrees minimum. You will also need to do the "vacuum canister mod" so that the system retards timing appropriately based on the other modifications. Be sure to replace your knock sensor as that can effect boost as well. Lose the cat and muffler. Put in an 82 degree thermostst and fan switch. Or better yet, put in a cockpit switch to override the fan switch. If you can afford to, add a front-mounted intercooler. If not, at least add a fan to your intercooler or drive with a bag of ice on your intake. These suggestions will increase HP but most importantly will make the car quicker in the low-end which is important in this type of race. Suspension reliability will be a factor, make sure that you have good ball joints and shock bushings. Take out the passenger-side motor mount and hard-mount the engine to the motor mount bracket. Motor mount failure (which is almost inevitabe) can cause shifting issues. Check the passenger-side inner driver for wear. Replacing it may be a budget breaker but if you switch the inner drivers (passenger to driver and visa-versa) you can get by (just the inner drivers are swapable not the axles). You may also want to weld a triangle of plate steel to the lower a-arm to stiffen it. Good Luck!!
