There are new bonding compounds that are stronger than welding but will resist crashes.
Cut out the floors and recess them to accept Aluminum sheet. Use a roller to bend a pattern into the Aluminum sheet for strength. Use the bonding compound to adhere the Aluminum sheet to the floors of the car and the trunk and the inner door metal sheet. Use pop-rivots avery 6 inches to hold it all together. You will loose 50 or so pounds, or at least 1/20 of a second in your 1/4 mile times.
Loose the wiring harness to kill 50 lbs.
Loose the headliner and the stuff to hold the hood and trunk open. Loose the Aluminum girder in the rear bumper. Use alloy rims. Change as much window glass to plastic as you can. Change the rear fire wall to Aluminum in the same fashion. Cut out the wheel wells in the fenders generously.
This all alone will add up to 200 lbs of savings. That is 2/10 of a second in time. That kind of saving is HUGE.
