Does this work on pre-Trionic cars? I honestly don't know, maybe someone else does.
The wire is indeed the one to pin 14 on Trionic ECUs and is coloured Orange. You can put a switch in it or just cut it, as I did on my previous CSE. Once again, I have no knowledge of effectiveness or wire colour/pin numbers pre-Trionic so check first!
But to find out the effect, you/Smeter can (once again, this is true for later cars) take out fuse 9 and start the car. This fuse also controls things like the reversing lights and sunroof, so if you want to drive backwards or expect rain you can in theory put the fuse back in once it's in "D", but if you move through "N" you'll lose the effect and will need to take the fuse out again, not very practical long-term.
You may need to wait a little for the effect to happen (like it may not do much the first couple of times you hit the loud pedal) but after that you should get a chunk more power, quite simply because boost levels are not restricted.
Side-effects may include the revs dropping at idle, which may or may not be a problem - the auto software map lifts the idle a little to compensate for the drag of the tranny before you move off. I also had the occasion "cough" on starting, sounded dramatic but had no apparent effect and might have had a completely different cause.
The obvious thing is to try the fuse 9 trick before attempting minor surgery on the ECU wiring.
Finally, not sure about a extra 15/20 hp but it will certainly add to the mix, especially with other mods like a 3" downpipe or full system. Above all it's completely free of charge!
