Are you sure you don't have any vacuum leaks? ECU's can adapt for sure, but it more likely that something is worn out/broken and not allowing the ECU to function properly than ECU itself has adapted poorly out of range or broken.
I would recommend a smoke test for leaks.
BTW an "unlearned" ECU will operate like stock. Learning is a process of getting the car to adapt to it's new targets for boost and ignition timing. Re-learning is something I would recommend if you felt like power is not on target, but if you want to try it; disconnect the battery for 15 minutes. Get out on the highway and in forth gear at around 2K rpm step on it and keep it to the floor until you hit redline or at least at close to that as conditions allow. Repeat 3-4 times.bbbb
