You want to keep it clean and well oiled, but not so much oil it gets all through the turbo and ic and it will mess mas air flow sensors up too.
The 9k has a fender well that is a big air box and keeps a lot of dirt and debris out of there and if you keep an eye on it, you should be ok. I have to clean mine every 3-5k to keep it nice and clean.
They are supposed to let more dirt through the filter and they also get clogged faster, so that means if you do not clean it every 3-5k, they can become more clogged than a paper filter and actually restrict flow.
My opinion is if you are going to run one, I run them, I would suggest keeping it inspected, cleaned and well oiled.. You may want to change you're oil a little more often too...
Good Luck,
John
