Need turbo advice - GT28RS big enough for ~350 hp? Posted by AdamB [Email] (#3) [Profile/Gallery] (more from AdamB) on Sat, 31 May 2008 08:08:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
the stock T25 turbo on my ´96 9000 2.0t has started to show signs of impending doom in the form of smoke clouds a few seconds after full boost (amazing that it's lasted this long - 340k KMs + ECU upgrade) and I'm planning a major upgrade this summer, so it would be a waste of money to just get a rebuilt T25. Thus I'm forced to decide now on which turbo to use.
The following parts are going to be installed:
Larger intercooler
3 bar map-sensor
Siemens Deka 630CC injectors
Bigger turbo
Maptun individual ECU
I already have 3" exhaust from turbo, race cat and open intake in fender.
Previously the turbo I've been wanting to get was the GT28RS 0.64AR and not the 0.86. I've now been thinking about whether that is big enough for ~350HP and if I should go with a larger turbo. I haven't heard any good things about the GT2871-76 turbos, so am going to steer clear of those.
1. Is the GT28RS 0.64 really only capable of 320 crank HP if you don't want to push it?
2. What about the 0.86 AR version of the GT28RS? Is it as bad as you hear?
3. What about a GT3071R 0.64? Would that be overkill for ~350hp? Would it be spooling slower than the 0.86 GT28RS? Would it even fit with stock manifold and fan?
Looking forward to any suggestions!
Thanks
