Ok if you are planning on doing SOLO II then you don't need a roll bar. SOLO II is autocross no roll bar. However, if you are taking the car to the track to do Time Trials, SOLO then you will need a roll bar. Check http://www.scca.org and get the rule book.

I recommend doing a PDX at your local track. A PDX is Performance Driving Experience with an instructor until you get sign off by the instructor to go out by yourself. Three classes are involve, Group A & B with instructors, Group C without. The max speed for Group A & B is 95mph. No roll bar, race seat, fire suit etc etc is needed. Helmet is needed and of course gloves as you will get your hands wet.

I am doing one this coming July 19 and 20 at RoadAtlanta and already have the car ready for it.
