All,
I've not posted here before...stayed in the C900 board and 9000 board for my various ponderings. However, this one may belong here, so bare with me.
I've got an old sweetheat 90 900S, 5 speed that I dearly love. I've got 3 of the C900's (others are turbos/5spds) and a 9K Turbo. Of them all, this S is nearest to my heart. Yes, she's a bit anemic and you have to wind up the 16V NA motor to get her going anywhere, but she's a hoot to drive.
I'm envisioning reinventing this old gal as a G machine. I only live about 2 hours from the famous "dragon" road up in NC/TN, so I've got plenty of twisty roads here and nearby my home in NW Georgia.
Without drilling into the search function, but based on another conversion to a large GM A body, I'm guessing a good starting point is as follows:
1. Good springs - EIBACH or similar which will both lower and stiffen the spring rates. For whatever reason the S sits higher than my Turbo cars, so I know she need slammed a bit.
2. Good shocks - I used a set of Bilsteins on my A body project so I know they work....KONI's have high marks as well, but don't know if they make them for the 900. Check that box.
3. I've got the SPG 15 wheels with I believe the standard offset. I'm guessing some 16 wheels with additional width will enable some shorter, stiffer 16 wheels. I work for TOYO/NITTO, so finding some good rubber won't be a problem.
4. Anyone gone to different sway bars? Don't know how good the OEM bars are up front. I know about poly bushings....BTDT. Hellwig makes real nice bars for big American iron, 4340 alloy steel, powder coated. Who is running what bars? Front only, or front and rear? I'm showing my ignorance here (don't punish me) about the rear....I know there is a panhard bar back there but don't really recall a rear bar.
5. Yes, the anemic 16V NA engine. Mine is bone stock but still runs sweet. I suppose I can research the LPT and see if anyone has been able to keep one of those bolted together. Is it just me, or is an underpowered car actually FUN to drive and flog thru the twisties?
Okay you lateral G guys, give me the skinny. I want to make a corner carver out of this little 900S.
thanks,
DET
