I just looked at my '88 and also at a '98 9000 and it looks like the firewall side of the front of the head is in fact the same so the motor mount bracket should still bolt right up! I know the air conditioner bracket mounting is different but if you want to keep your A C just use a '94 up bracket as long as the pre-'94 A C pump has the same mounting pattern? The only thing I see on the front face of the '88 head is a lifting bracket and a wire / cable holder so your OK there! So it looks like just modifying the front lip of the late head so it matches the early timing cover plus welding a piece in one side of the chain opening where it's too wide will do it! Of course the head will need a minimum resurfacing afterwards. I think $200 would do it plus the surfacing? If you have someone back there that's a good TIG welder with aluminum I can walk them through it so you wouldn't have shipping both ways! Remember that the late heads are close to 1mm thiner so you have to use '94 up cams so your cam timing isn't retarded the 9 1/2 degrees caused by the different head thickness, you will however need to use your early cam sprockets! Take care, Dave
