Thats a fine thing to do. When I put the battery in the trunk of my c900 I put a nice BlueSea thru-panel disconnect key sticking through the trunk floor. I'm not a fan of the on-terminal disconnects that cliff refers to, but they are an option that doesn't take as much space.
