CART BEFORE THE DONKEY SUSPENSION QUESTION Posted by Blackcar [Email] (#3126) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Blackcar) on Tue, 22 Jun 2010 07:26:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The 7 1/2" x 18" forged aluminum wheels mounted on my '88 SiS were custom fabricated by placing a straight edge across the hub of the rotors, then taking precise measurements to all wheel well intrusions and suspension components. This data was in turn used to forge the wheels. Tolerances are tight, I can't slide my index finger between the rim and the trailing arm for instance. Initially, 215 x 40 aspect rubber was shod but proved to much under hard cornering producing minor chafing. Rubber was switched to 215 x 35 - problem solved, but they are as hard as bricks though I can live with that. Suspension is stock with the exception of SAAB issue SPG shocks. Love the ride, but would like to put an edge to the handling. Performance bushings, springs of a higher rate, and on-car adjustable shocks would seem to be a good place to start. Would like to lower the body just-a-mite but doubt the wheels would accept it. All the performance springs I have looked are of the lowering kind. A lead to higher rate springs of OEM size would be appreciated. And any suggestions to handling upgrade that won't crash the wheels. Perhaps I've shot my foot off by putting the cart first. Thanks for your help.
