At stage three, I don't believe you're in danger of extreme EGT's, but yes, an EGT is more useful than a o2 sensor gauge in detecting a lean condition. To be accurate it really needs to be on the upstream side of the turbo, preferably after the runners come together in order to monitor more than one cylinder. Some manifolds have a plug for EGR, which can be tapped. However, if you don't have such luck, drilling and tapping the manifold is no walk in the park.
