My downpipe has the cat moved a bit further back out from under the oil pan. It is not a major contributor to oil temp. The piston squirters and turbo are more of a problem.
I run oil temp logging on the drag car and when we have the big cars over 400hp on the dyno we always run a special oil temp dipstick. (Along with lots of other sensors)
Here is a pic of a ~400whp Viggen on the Dyno in 80-90f ambient making single pulls. 7.5hp 3-phase fan moving enough air you have to wear ear protection. You can see the trend in the oil temp. Imaging making a few without monitoring it and you can kill the car in no time. The answer is not as simple as fitting a larger cooler either. We make sure to run a bit heavier oil when the temps get over 90 in the room. The charge temp there is pretty cool too. That is in the manifold down through the brake vacuum hole. I made a sensor that grabs temp from down inside and pressure through the same 10mm hose port. It drops as the throttle is opened and the trapped hot charge clears.
