I'd just use a C-900 auto trans one housing, brackets and all! If I remember correctly a flat cover won't clear the ring gear? What I'm making for mine is a driver bolster setup that ties the driver housings to the trans with a 1 1/2" thick aluminum cover that is machined to the right width to bolt 3/8" steel pieces from both driver housings to the sides of the thick differential cover. I spot faced both driver housings equal at their bolt bosses so I could make spacers to clear the speedometer drive on the one side and to get everything to line up with the wide cover. Once you tie what's normally the differential to the transmission without relying on the case itself to do it you've really strengthened a C-900 trans-axle up a bunch. Next thing would be to build some sort of a girdle to keep the whole case from flexing to keep the gears engagement correct. The girdle should have 3 sections and one of them could be attached to both 3/8" pieces. I feel that all this plus what Scanwest does to these tranies along with keeping the critical bearings in like new condition would make these transmissions stay together with some decent HP with common sense driving of course.
