If you compress to achieve a specific air mass flow, then there will be more heat which could affect timing via knocking considerations; lowering power.
At high altitudes, one cannot get higher octane fuels and that can lower max-boost power.
If you compress to obtain a specific pressure, at higher altitudes, this can come as higher temperatures and less mass-flow.
At higher altitudes, air resistance drops which can improve run times.
