I cut springs all the time, here's the formula Posted by MTAERO [Email] (#2408) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MTAERO) on Sun, 13 Nov 2011 15:15:05 In Reply to: If I cut off 1 coil on my 99 9-3 how much will it lower, Alex 9-3, Fri, 4 Nov 2011 14:44:47 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Look at the springs on the car sitting on the ground. count the number of complete loaded coils. Collapsed coils don't count. Measure or approximate the distance spaned by the active coils.
now calculate.
example
If you have 5 active coils spanning 6 inches and you remove one you lower the car?????????
you guesed right 20% of the distance the active coils originally spanned.
In this example that would be .2X6=1.2inches.
Don't worry about cutting fractions because the upper mount rotates and will keep the lower in the proper place.
Grind the end of the coil flat to seat better in the topount.
