Leak down test results Posted by keith [Email] (#1462) [Profile/Gallery] (more from keith) on Thu, 12 Sep 2013 07:39:44 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
So I did a leak down test om my 95 9000 aero with 232000 miles. All cylinders were under 80% with the exception of cylinder #4 which clocked in exactly at 80%. By comparison cylinder #1 came in at 62%. I did the test to see if there were an explanation for my less then creamy idle, so I guess these numbers might expose one possible culprit. Here's the thing: this engine burns no oil. I mean I once went 12K between oil changes without having to add a drop of oil(please don't throw any brickbats or rotten fruit). So where am I losing air? My hearing isn't what it used to be so I'm having a hard time tracking down the tell tail hiss. Is it incorrect to assume that good piston rings insure tight pistons? Or am I looking at a cylinder head rebuild? I figure somebody on this board probably has a clue.
