Ive had both in decent HP and on streets I think the low end torque is more fun and usable even if it isent technically faster... but too much torque in a FWD car is a pain in the butt because of loosing traction with steering tires...
so the thing I like about the 2.3 in my viggen is that with the GT3071R I get full boost on a warm day before 4000RPM and on a cold day at about 3400RPM it makes about 22PSI currently and I think thats a good and reasonable tune
if you hang a big turbo on a smaller engine you have to drive around revving the crap out if it to make any power and this partly kills the sleeper aspect :-) and the torque curve can still be abrupt .. just at a higher RPM by black car was like that with the GT3271 at 30PSI.. nothing till 4000RPM and then all hell broke loose...and so did the tires :-)
I honestly think that the NG900 and 9-3 are good between 350 and 400HP with reasonable torque numbers slightly higher then the HP (lower boost more timing) I think my favorite car was my stage 5 NG900 making about 340BHP maybe 360 ft lbs ... full boost by 3500RPM and I had a couple hold 20PSI at 6500RPM these setups were really fun on the street and highway and not too much of a hand full much more then that and you are just spinning tires
but I guess Im drifting off there :-)
I think it just depends on what you are trying to do
my opinion :-)
