Why not just go back to the factory airbox and snorkel setup? It flows plenty of air to well over 300hp. So you lose a little bit of noise from the turbo (attracts less attention this way!). Its much safer than any open air filter setup and is well worth keeping IMO to protect the MAF and eliminate the potential to suck up water/hydrolock.
Also, get the car looked at with a TechII instead of throwing darts to find out what the problem is and hopefully fix it with parts.
