As most of you know I've been on this 20 month or so quest to have my engine rebuilt and so on. Anyway, here are the mods, both present and past. I'll start with the intake and move on through the motor....it's easier to remember that way. The car is 16V 1985 Turbo. Has 293,000 miles at rebuild. I dig this car.
Intake: PRM ram air conical set up with K & N filter inside.
Turbo: Turbo Specialities in B'ham, AL., did the turbo. T4/T3 hybrid. They did a nice job. There going to do a 3" downpipe for me and get rid of the stock cast iron elbow.
I/C: Spearco liquid I/C. Custom mounted with reservoir, pump and radiator. All I/C pipes are custom and larger than stock.
TB: ELP Motorsport. Only good thing I bought from this guy. It is nice though. It's englarged and polished.
Intake Manifold: Stock, but did the Extrude Hone. It has been port matched to head.
Injectors: SPG9 24 lb units
Bell Eng. RRFPR
Head: SPG9 (LESCO). Port/polish. The whole nine yards. Springs, retainers. They installed the cams and made sure everything was to spec, especially after the butcher job PAECO did on the original head.
ARP head studs from SPG9. They had to be customized.
CAMS: By Swedish Dynamics. Red series. A little noisy when cold at idle, but the seem to pull quite well.
Exhaust Man. Port matched. Stock.
Motor: PAECO did the engine. These guys (or rather the owner) is flaming incompentent, money hungry, don't give a damn about the product, fool. Anyway, the motor is 0.040" over with ARIAS forged pistons. 9.3:1 compression. He wanted to put 10:1 in and I said NO WAY. Shows you how little he knows about turbo applications, especially when I told him I'd be running 15-18 psi of boost. FOOOL. Supposedly, the engine was balanced and blueprinted...who knows. Pistons, had them SWAIN goldcoated (thermal barrier) with Poly Moly applied to the skirts. PAECO did do an aluminum flywheel and that, beleive it or not, is probably the best thing they did. I had the block O-ringed thanks to SPG9 loaner tool from ISKY cams. Head gasket is copper by Swedish Dynamics.
Clutch: Centerforce Dual Friction
Exhaust is 3" from stock elbow back. Cat and muffler are 3" too.
ECU: SPG9 Stage 2
Tranny: Upgraded to 92 tranny with a short shifter from Gary Moore.
Front end. Completely rebuilt (by me, no less. Man I learned alot.) All new bushings and motor mounts. Poly bushings for the sway bars and lower shock mounts. Poly bushing for rear springs.
JAMEX Springs with KYB Shocks. Car sits low and is a somewhat stiff ride.
Momo Millineum wheel. Thanks Gary M.
All the gauges, plus some. Oil, Volts, Water, Boost, A/F, Fuel Pressure, and 3 air temp units (ambient, Turbo outlet, IC outlet.
Corbeau seat for me.
Shelby spoked rims (I love them. Silver too)
Stainless brake lines and Brembo cross drilled rotors (SPG9)
MSD 6BTM with Blaster 2 Coil. Magnacore 8.5 mm wires.
Yellow silcone hoses everywhere with really nice clamps from Hose Techniques.
XS Blow off valve (I guess this should have been inserted above....even going through the motor I forgot).
Lots of hours put into the car. Forturnately, my friend owns a shop and that's where my car sat for 20 months. He finally gave me a set of keys so I could go in whenever I wanted. I was there many early Sunday mornings.
I've been driving it for 3 days now. Have almost 500 miles. Every day I push the rpms ever so gently a little higher. Have an oil leak on oil return line from turbo. Will fix this weekend. It rides a lot different with all the new bushings. It sits pretty low, too.
Well, that be it for now. Glad to answer any questions anyone might have.
Shaun (so happy to have my car back)
