I have had a broke passenger foglight for sometime and have been meaning to fix it. About a month ago while putting on some of Jim Millers Viggen Rescue Kit I was discussing the possiblities of improving my airflow for the car. Mike Heyse suggested ram air from the foglight and it sounded like a good idea.

The total cost for making this ram air is about $15. $3 for a 3" to 3.5" tin pipe, $10 for the tubing, $3 for epoxy and mybe $2 for some duct tape.

First bend the 3.5" side of the tubing to fit the outside of the foglight. Then cut the fog light to this size. Epoxy these two parts together. Now we have the intake for the ram air. Now connect the 3" tubing to the intake and reinforce this fitting with some duct tape.

Now remove the airbox and remove the tube that goes into the airbox. What should be left is a two inch tube coming out of the air box. Also pay attention to the inside of the airbox you should notice a small hole in the bottom for draining any possible water intake.

Now put back in the foglight assembly with the tubing attached. Put in the airbox and connect the two and secure with more epoxy/duct tape. Now we have a ram air intake for the Saab:-)

The pros
Much more free flowing and a real cold air box. Increased throttle response and a slight increase in the exhaust note. Increased Hp:-)

The cons
No foglight for the passenger side. Also some will think that this ram air will allow for water to get into the engine.

What I noticed.
The ram air is located where the orginal foglight assembly was. To allow for water to get into the engine first it would have to come into the horizonal intake flow up about two feet of tubing enter the airbox pass a drain hole(design by Saab for draining water), flow through the airfilter and fill up the airbox(about 6") then enter the top of the airbox so it can drain down into the turbo. I think the like hood of this happening is slim unless one drives through deep water.

I also would like to thank Mike Heyse for the tubing and Eric Heyse for helping me making this. Just a note Mike has only about 8ft of this tubing left if anyone is interested.
