Car and Driver rated the 9-3 dead last in a "sport sedan" shootout. My problem with C&D (and all car mags) is that they really don't live with the car. They simply select the vehicle that drives the best. For instance, I read the review where the 9-3 got dead last (I think they had 6 cars), and I wouldn't have bought the Acura 3.2tl (too sedanish) or the IS 300 (nice car, but way too japanese looking) regardless of how well they scored. The Audi A4/S4 and BMW are too small and aren't practicle enough, and, at the time, overpriced. I forget whether they had a Volvo or Mercedes, but neither one of these is very sporty looking (to me). It would be beneficial if they had categories like: most useful; "car to have if you're a college student"; "car to have if you are a yuppie or DINK." They simply drive the cars for one-two days and make a decision. Let them go to Price Club and buy a bunch of crap, including a freezer, and decide which car handles this the best.
As to your selection of cars, I'd have to take the WRX. I think its awd system is pretty nice and it has a low center of gravity, and, with snow tires, it will be a lot of fun in the snow.
