I turned down the wastegate 1 turn and it seems to have done the trick. I went for a long drive last nite to test the limits of the car. It tops out at 250 km/h and pulls strongly in all gears except the occasional hesitation and stumble caused by the DI/plugs. I will pull them today after work to see what model they are and how they look.
When you tune an older car ('96 and 170k kms) it reveals all the stuff that needs to be changed. The DI cassette may have been marginal for some time but I haven't noticed because the boost has always been low until now.
Driving to ChipCenter is not really an option because it's a app. 4 hour drive and there's expensive bridge-toll etc. They have offered to send me a new ECU free of charge if lenghtening the wastegate rod didn't help, so I don't think this reflects badly on them. Anyway if new plugs doesn't remove the hesitation it's bound to be the DI cassette.
