Hi,
Last night I installed Daves' MBC to my '94 9K CSE 2,3LPT. And here I have to tell you bad news - it is not possible to upgrade LPT to FTP this way. The max. boost before fuel cut-off takes place is set to 0,6bar (8,7psi). But it is still worthy to do it - I payed only $35, and I can feel the difference.
OK, so
1. I bought a calibrated boost gauge and I connected it to the intake manifold. This way I could record the boost before I installed MBC. The max. boost I could read on gauge was 0,3-0,35bar (4,3-5psi) during acceleration on lower rpm (2500-3000rpm) and it was going to 0,2bar (2,9psi)at higher rpm. By the way, is it normal that boost goes down on higher rpm?
2. I installed MBC (five minutes job) and started to calibrate. As I mentioned before I noticed that the max. boost for LPT engine is 0,6bar. So all I could do was to set it to 0,5 - 0,55bar (7,2-7,9psi). And now it behaves this way: during the acceleration boost immidiatelly goes to 0,55bar (at lower rpm) and drops down to 0,2-0,3bar at higher rpm. That's basically all I could do, but there is a difference - yes, I can feel it. Very quick spool-up, and 60% increased boost - this is what can be called a "tunned LPT engine".
I hope my story will help you decide what kind of upgrade to do in your cars.
Happy boosting
