high pressure drop in 900 IC Posted by Kevin K [Email] (#374) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Kevin K) on Mon, 22 Oct 2001 11:36:58 In Reply to: 900 IC is fine; 165 hp capacity statement is inaccurate, WASSAAB, Mon, 22 Oct 2001 11:17:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
It is designed for near stock hp, but water inj'n helps the heat issue for Brad.
I VERY CAREFULLY measured 1.4 psi drop at an estimated 145 eng hp (about 9 psi boost, 83T). That's a lot.
It is a down and back design ... long effective length is great for high efficiency in normal driving. But small gross flow area, and extra exit and entrance losses at bottom tank, create high press drop at high power, and make turbo work harder than needed, creating more heat, backpressure, and turbine work than needed.
The 9000 IC likely has much less pressure drop, and can utilize oem fans. A good test by kooch would be to bypass apc and directly control boost off compressor at some knock free level, like 14 psi? Then retro 900IC back and repeat. Note difference in manifold pressure.
