Warning: I am NOT unbiased on this subject. I put between 250 and 300k on the original motor, tranny and turbo in my 87 SPG using RedLine exclusively. The motor and tranny were rebuilt last month, due to a cracked piston; the mechanic was astonished to learn all were original. There may be other synthetics as good as RedLine - - but it will be a cold day in Hades before I put anything else in MY SPG. (MTL is their gearbox lube for Saab general applications; 5w-30 seems to work well for most engine needs, although I ran 10w-40 during Arizona summers.)

PS: worse an embarrassing question than an embarrassing mistake, no??
