Not that it poses a frequent problem, mind you. But more practically, the stock US gearing runs too high at 80, which is unfortunate. Two solutions seem viable: regear tranny with Euro sprocket, sacrificing some lower end response to get high end speed we can't use all that often in the states; or dropping in a 6 speed tranny which would give lower cruise rpm at 80, retain reasonably close gearing for good response at the speeds we usually drive, add the option of downshifting at 80 to stick it for passing, and lengthen the upper end legs. (The thought that a friggin Cadillac has a higher top end galls me.)

Can I afford to have somebody design and build a 6 speed? Hell, no. But this is a fantasy board, in part, isn't it? And maybe somebody will take up that challenge and the rest of us can profit.

Frankly, this makes A LOT MORE SENSE to me than replacing the 5 speed with a 4, yet many people spend money on that. Perhaps I am missing the obvious (again). Tell me where.

Meanwhile, don't knock him. The idea makes perfectly good sense to me. Much more so, frankly, than giving a 21 year old kid an S4. Somebody out there has more money than brains... let's hope the fellow who started this thread is far more careful than 99% of guys his age. Why do I have to have the reverse problem?

Regards to all!
