Tight, precise, clean, crisp: none of these seem to apply to the Saab C900 gearbox. Pity.

Loose, a little off, long throws, and enough movement that the designers must have felt we would want to verify gear placement visually before releasing the clutch. THESE are the descriptions I would apply to the tranny. It really galls me that my wife's old Honda civic, and her mother's new Accord, both have crisper, smoother more precise gearboxes. But hell, some of the big construction trucks I used to drive were worse than the Saab C900 tranny.

On the other hand, almost everything else about the SPG makes me very, very happy.

The rebuilt tranny is as smooth as I could have expected, and I can't find any cause to think the mounts made it any worse. Whether it shifts "better" with solid mounts than with stock, I can't really say, because the old box had >250k wear and two of the three mounts were gone when we did the rebuild.
