I just recently installed a K&N cone on my '94 9000 Aero. Weren't there changes between 92 and 93 in the 9000? I'm not familiar enough with how they differ between the years, but here's what I did...

I removed the outer half of the stock airbox and bought a 3" to 2" PVC adapter, a small section of 3" PVC pipe, and an adapter similar to the 3" to 2" PVC, except made out of rubber (all from Home Depot). I then went to a salvage yard and got myself a spare cap to the airbox (the thing with the metal clips that attaches to the hose from the turbo). I used Goop to secure the rubber adapter inside that cap (the rubber adapter needed the lip sanded off before it fit inside the cap, but it is really snug in there and is now gooped in). The PVC section and adapter then join up to the K&N inside the fender. This leaves me able to return to the stock setup, puts the K&N in the same area as the original filter without the restrictive airbox/snorkel, and leaves the division between the fender and the engine compartment.

I can definitely hear the added whoosh everyone talks about and the turbo and bypass valve can be heard more easily as well. I would say, if anything, there is a slight increase in performance of the car. Obviously nothing HUGE, but it definitely got no worse.

I posted a question a couple weeks ago about this topic, had a picture up, and got a few responses. There are also quite a few other postings here on the matter, a search for K&N may turn up some good info if you haven't looked already.
