The last thing I want to do is discourage you, but I've been struggling
with the same thing, and it makes for a lot of work! Suppose you do the
following:

1) port the head, gasket-match the manifolds
2) big down pipe and exhaust
3) big turbo
4) fix ECU rev limiter

You are now looking at valve train as the limiting factor. The self-adjusting
hydraulic lifters are great from a maintenance point-of-view, but they
are lead weights relative to high rpm demands. Maybe all you need to control
them to 7000rpm is stronger valve springs – an engine builder should be
able to tell you what is possible.

I'm considering a solid-lifter conversion for my SPG - which should be good
for 8000rpm. The idea is to use solid lifters from another application, custom
valves with longer stems, new springs and a lot of $$$$. Seems like a lot,
but I bet the first time I take it to 8 grand I forget aaaallll about the
money!!
