Sorry, should of added more details. I have a '96 9K LPT. So stock airbox is in the fender and via the added holes should be picking up whatever cool air is available in the space between the fender and fender liner. Have been thinking of either pulling off or holing the plastic skid plate on the bottom of this space but have a concern about too much crud being picked up into the space and airbox. Being its a LPT, there is no BPC so the MBC (adjustable bleeder) is plumbed into the turbo and intake track as the BPC would be if so equipped. I have an intercooler but have shy'd away from messing around with the MAP as I don't want to get into a detonation situation by going outside the stock safeguards. Right now I don't have any problems as long as I'm running premium.
In reading some of the other posts, it sounds as though the whistle is fairly common with a free flow exhaust and I agree that it might just be noise coming from the intake tract now that the turbo is fighting less backpressure. I know that I am definitely getting more intake noise in general now. I guess I am just a bit amazed that an fairly simple exhaust change would have such a relatively dramatic affect on intake and turbo noise. Not complaining, sounds pretty cool actually. Just checking really.
