NORCROSS, Ga.- Saab Automobile AB is pleased to announce that the completely redesigned 2002 9-3 "America", to be introduced sometime this year, is undergoing final testing at Saab USA's secret testing facility in dowtown Queens. This all-new car will be the first Saab specifically built for the American market. "The US is our largest market by far, so it's only natural that we would design this vehicle with the American driver in mind," said chief engineer Gino. This also marks the first time that Saab will market a completely different vehicle to the US consumer than in Europe. The European version will be built on a completely new platform and will incorporate Saab's latest engine designs. "The European model will be faster, more agile, and more luxurious than anything Saab has ever produced. It will take the European press by storm," insisted Michael Mauer, Saab's Cheif of Design, "The American version will not."

In order to appeal to Saab purists throughout the US, the body of the 9-3 "America" will be virtually unchanged from it's predecessor - as will its suspension, and interior. Design of the 9-3 "America" was done over lunch by GM executives of the Pontiac division. "We needed a car that would appeal both to Saab purists, and to the broader US market," said Gino. Saab USA's unprecedented scheme will please purists by leaving the car virtually unchanged. However, Saab plans to dramatically grow its US market through the incorporation of the "America" package as a compulsory option for US buyers.

The "America" upgrade will include a completely redesigned 4-point exhaust elimination system, a solar reduction window coating system, EuroBleu (tm) headlights, shiny wheels, and an unprecedented 16 cupholders. "We're making up for past mistakes," said Gino. In a special gathering, Saab USA also announced that it had licensed the "V-tec" logo from Honda Motors, Inc. The vinyl logo will be prominently displayed on the back of every 9-3 "America" sold. As part of its new US strategy, Saab also announced that it was introducing two new engines for the 9-3 "America" - an 8 liter V6 and a 12 liter V8. These engines will meet the special needs of the US consumer while reducing both gas milage and horsepower.
