APC Mod, need help

Well today I decided my car needed more power so I decided to try and modify my APC. So I pulled it out and opened the box up to find no "pots" in my APC. Is this correct? My car is a 90 9kt CD with direct ignition. All that seems to be in my box are chips. When was the change made in the 9000 to chips instead of the pots and resistors that all you 900 guys talk about. is there anything I can do to my APC to get more power other than get new chips?
thanks,
chris
