They can be had as cheaply as $15-20, and just needs a little fuel line and work to plumb it into the system. This way, you can check and adjust your fuel pressure far more conveniently, cheaply, and frequently than taking it to the shop each time. It's nice to have once you are still dialing things in, though you may not need it once you're happy.

I'd be extremely surprised if turning the adjustment screw clockwise didn't increase the fuel pressure. I'm not familiar with the SPG9 unit myself, though.

Your logic is correct, in that if you increase the fuel pressure, WOT/high rpm fuel enrichment will be better, and idle performance will suffer. Whether or not you can increase fuel pressure enough to completely prevent detonation, is a different story. There are lots of variables, including your timing at WOT/full boost, intercooler efficiency, ambient temperature, and maximum boost levels. So far I have found the most reliable ways to decrease pinging and detonation are decreasing the maximum boost, and adding water injection. Extra fuel does help, no doubt, but you generally don't want to use fuel just as a coolant. Cutting timing way back can also prevent pinging and keep the boost solid, but you'll lose quite a bit of power. Better to have timing at stock levels and 15 psi boost, than have timing cut back five degrees and 20 psi boost, IMHO.

With 91 octane, especially if you live around sea level like I do, water injection is highly recommended if you want to go over 14-15 psi.

That'll get you started anyway..
