I am doing some homework on the pro's and con's of upgrading the brake system on my 92 9kt. I came across some interesting advice and wanted to share it with you guys and see what you think.
"unless youre gonna be doing serious high speed racing why go to the epxense of big brakes? the only real advantage over stock is the increased surface area which aids in quicker cooling...if your stock brakes can lock up the wheels or activate the pulsation of the ABS you are not going to stop any quicker than that unless you put stickier tires on...you would be better off getting some good rotors and some EBC green pads...13 inch rotors huge calipers and the big 17"+ wheels it takes to clear the brakes will add a ton of unsprung weight to the car and make it a lot slower...if the stock brakes are able to STOP the movement of the rotor you cant go any further than STOPPED its not like you can make them stop more...if you want to reduce braking distance get some better pads like EBC green, slightly wider and stickier tires and dont bother with large diameter wheels either as this creates more rolling mass for the brakes to stop"
