Greetings, all. I've been too overloaded at work to keep up with postings, but I send renewed greetings to old friends and new. My modestly modified SPG is alive and well and looking forward to the gleeful excesses of summer roads. I seek

It's time to reshoe the Stealthbomber for the summer. I'm running 205/55/15; nothing wider seems to fit without rubbing. Tire Rack offers me: Pirelli P7000; Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Positions; Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 and Yoko A022A. Perhaps there are other worthy contenders I should consider as well.

I know, and love, the handling and grip of the Pirelli P7000; wonderful traction, great response, but so soft they only lasted two seasons. Since I'm based in Minneapolis and the snow tires are on the car half the year, that doesn't add up to many miles out of a set of tires. (But that's the only negative about these tires, and I may buy them again if not persuaded otherwise.)

In performance mode, my driving style is simple, and probably shared by many on this board: Accelerate til you see God, then BRAKE! Seriously, while I don't drag race, I do use threshold braking and trailing brake through the corners when conditions permit (i.e., open roads and highways with no kids or other drivers at risk). I have no need of all-season tires (that's what the winter performance tires are for); I do desire and will pay for excellent wet and dry road traction, good feedback, predictable handling at the limits of adhesion, and the extra margin of safety that top-level tires bring. Would prefer "V" rating or above; will consider "H" rating only as last resort.

Oh Learned Ones, Disciples of the Great Speed Schools, Tread Tekkies, share with me your thoughts, observations and anatomically plausible suggestions.

The Stealthbomber: 87 SPG, Modestly modified:
Rewired APC; SPG9 AID, 27 lb injectors, 3.0 FPR, open K&N, upgraded exhaust; recently rebuilt motor (cracked piston at 275k) and tranny (newly upgraded pinion). Ready to romp and pawing the ground restlessly.
