I understand what you are saying, but is does not make any sense.

With a typical stand alone bypass filter, the filter gets full oil pressure across its media and its restriction orifice.

With a dual mount, the 'bypass' element will only see a pressure across it that is created by the pressure drop across the full flow filter. So with a new full flow filter and a new bypass filter, the pressure to make the bypass unit work is very small. When the full flow filter gets restrictive, then the bypass will take more flow.

The filters cannot be in series!

This is because the full flow unit is designed to have very little pressure drop and the bypass unit by nature is much more restrictive.

And a bypass filter is often connected to take a feed of oil which has gone thru the full flow filter so it only sees the smaller stuff, tyically 30 um and smaller. With the dual mount the bypass will see the complete spectrum of particle sizes. On a gasser, a bypass element that is feed filtered oil will last a very long time. (Some folks run the bypass only mounts to fender wells etc where there is space and because the unit is out of the hot engine bay, they can tell when a bypass element is resticted to the point of not working because the filter or filter housing does not warm up as expected. But most of those reports are from diesels where soot can load up a bypass filter.)
