Charlie,

2-3 months ago, when 3rd gear wore out at 65K from excess torque (you should see the wear on faces of the gears!, I installed the Quaiffe LSD in my heavily modified '97 900 SETC. (Abbott ECU, springs & VRK; Viggen IC; custom turbo upgrade and intake with K&N cone; Saab cat back exhaust; 215/45/17 S02's). Frankly, I have mixed emotions about it and suspect that I'd be happier if my car had both TCS and the Quaiffe.

Without the LSD, too much throttle, too soon, while exiting a turn would result in the inner drive wheel spinning, just as you experience. No big deal, just expensive Japanese rubber being wasted. On dry roads, the LSD solves that beautifully, just as expected and hoped for. The (MAJOR) pitfall is in the wet. If I'm at all overzealous with the throttle exiting a turn, the transfer of power to the outer drive wheel quickly breaks the adhesion of BOTH drive wheels rather than just the lightly loaded inner. This results in the entire front end slipping wide towards either the oncoming traffic or the guard rail, neither of which is at all comforting. Lifting off the throttle restores grip and brings things back in line, but it is an adreneline rush and not necessarily in a good way. Quite "dodgy" as you put it.

Bottom line: The car is definitely quicker with the LSD. The ultimate limit is raised, but the limit can be acheived with NO warning and is quite ragged. I'm MUCH more afraid of the limit when it's wet out than I ever was before. This has never happed on a dry road, however.

I could in fact order the LSD from Quaiffe USA directly, but Ed gave me a better deal. Installation requires removing and tearing down the gearbox. The diff is buried at the bottom of the gearbox.

Dan
